Course Description: This unique mini-residency is designed for attendees to confidently treat children and adults using myofunctional/expansion appliances and clear aligner therapy to achieve airway health. Dentists are in the unique position to spearhead collaborative care to address the root causes of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). By treating SDB via growth development of the jaws, they can impact children’s neurological, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral development thus combating common medical symptoms such as; ADHD, enuresis, and cognitive impairment. This course will also demonstrate how implementing expansion therapies can help adult patients suffering from SDB. Attendees will have a clear pathway to implement airway health into their practice and are encouraged to share their own cases allowing for hands-on experience and easier transitions into clinical practice Monday morning.

 

Learning Objectives:

•Understand the history and origins of SDB and identify patients suering from SDB

•Understand how to develop a child’s airway via proper growth and development of the jaws

•Develop skills for mastering the parent/patient consultation

•Select the appropriate myofunctional/expansion appliance to achieve desired results

•Understand insurance and billing codes

•Deliver myofunctional appliances and articulate home care instructions

•Initiate relationships with the medical community for collaborative care

•Implement basic myofunctional exercises and understand when to refer to specialist

•Implement child and adult expansion appliances from beginning to case completion

•Gain knowledge on when to use clear aligner therapy vs. expansion appliances

•Implement clear aligner therapy as a viable component to adult expansion

•Review cases with condence and simulate patient journey
